While visiting Essaouira (a port city of Morocco) on holiday I photographed a lot, though the primary subject of most of my images were cats dotted amongst the textures of the city. To call them stray would be incorrect, for the city itself is their home and they are looked after and loved by its people.
You’ll find them lazing on a pier, sauntering into a restaurant or sitting on top of fort cannons. And when you don’t see them, the graffiti and objects around town remind you that this place belongs to them. Then again, where there is ample fish, there is cat.
